Out & About in North West Norfolk

Beaches

Briarfields is just a short walk from Titchwell beach, ideal for relaxation and wild life spotting (access from RSPB Titchwell). When the tide is out, the beach exposes mile up mile of sand where you can view an abundance of bird life and the occasional seal or porpoise. You can also see the remnants of the RAF lookout tower from the 2nd world war and the remains of a pair of rusting army tanks and SS Vina built in 1894 (more info).

A short distance East, Brancaster beach runs parallel to Brancaster Golf Course. Wide expanses of sand for walking, sand castle, ice cream and kite surfing.
NOTE: Please check tide tables as approach road can become flooded in high tides.

Thornham Marshes

The marshes at Thornham offer a great board walk to Holme NOA.

Holkham beach is good enough for the Royals and the naturalists and is part of the Earls of Leicester’s estate. With 15 miles of white sand there is always plenty of space and tranquility on Holkham beach. The beach is lined with pine trees, has lovely forest walks and is well worth a visit.

Coastal Walk & Peddars Way

The Coastal Walk stretches from Hunstanton to Cromer. We have a circular walk covering some of the area from the hotel, but please check tide tables before setting out as part of the beach becomes water logged at high tides.

Golf

There are some fantastic 18 hole golf courses located close to Briarfields:

Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, Brancaster
Hunstanton Golf Club
Heacham Manor Golf
Sheringham Golf Club
Royal Cromer Golf Club

Market Towns

Fakenham, Burnham Market and Holt are all worth a visit if you love shopping. Burnham Market has gained the name of "Little Chelsea on the sea" and attracts a large amount of visitors during the summer – lots of shops, little parking, and of course a visit to the Hoste Arms and Pently Hat Shop complete the trip. Holt is a bit further afield but is a lovely market town and a trip via the scenic coastal A149 road will not disappoint. Lunch or afternoon tea at Byfords is a great idea as it is full of tempting goodies! Fakenham has a market each Thursday which is full of hustle and bustle, plenty of local Norfolk boys and well worth a visit.
